TallyPrime Silver vs Gold vs Server: Which Edition Fits Your Team?

TallyPrime Silver, Gold and Server compared: single user, multi-user on a local network, and client-server - so you buy the edition your team will actually use.

SBy Sarvadnya Infotech LLP

Three TallyPrime editions are sold, and the names describe how many people can work at once rather than how large the business is. Buying the wrong one costs twice - once for the licence you did not need, and again for the upgrade a few months later.

What each edition is for:

  • •Silver - single user. One person works in the company data at a time. Correct for an owner-operated business, a small office, or a firm where only one person ever keys in
  • •Gold - multi-user on a local network. The data lives on one machine and the other users connect to it over the office network. Correct when several people key vouchers or raise bills from the same premises
  • •Server - the client-server edition, for a larger or more distributed footprint where several users work at once and the load has to spread beyond one desktop. Licensed separately from Gold

What actually decides it - not "how many employees", but "how many people need to be inside Tally at the same moment":

  • •Count the people working in Tally during your busiest hour, not the headcount on the payroll
  • •Note whether they all sit in one office. Gold assumes a local network; people spread across sites or working from home need a different answer, and that is a separate decision about how they reach the data
  • •Be honest about the next twelve months. Buying Gold because "we might grow" when one person keys data wastes money; buying Silver and then finding four people keying every day means paying twice

Changing edition later:

  • •Upgrading from Silver to Gold, or Gold to Server, is a licence change, not a data migration. The same company data file carries your masters and vouchers across
  • •TSS renewal, support and cloud backup continue against the same serial number
  • •The edition in use, the serial number and the licensed user count are shown in F1 (Help) > Settings > License > Manage License

Before you buy:

  • •Confirm the edition you already hold, so you are not sold a second licence you do not need
  • •Confirm whether TSS is current, because a new licence and an active subscription are two different payments
  • •Confirm where the company data will live, and who backs it up

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about this topic.

Can two people work in TallyPrime Silver at the same time?

No. Silver is a single-user licence, so one person works in the company data at a time. If two or more people must key vouchers simultaneously, Gold (multi-user on a local network) or Server is the correct edition.

Do I lose my data if I upgrade from Silver to Gold?

No. The edition upgrade is a licence change, not a data migration. Your existing company data file opens in the new edition with masters and vouchers intact.

Is TallyPrime Server included with Gold?

No. Server is licensed separately from Gold. It is the client-server edition for a larger or more distributed footprint, not an add-on to a Gold licence.

How do I know how many users my current licence allows?

Open F1 (Help) > Settings > License > Manage License. The screen shows the edition in use, the serial number and the licence details.
